There is a place called Heaven, a glorious, wonderful, tranquil place that we can all go to, if we know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This magnificent place is not a state of mind. It is actually a real place, where the very Throne of Almighty God is. From the very beginning, God spoke of this place which He created saying, In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) According to the Bible, this was referring to the Heaven of heavens, for as yet He had not created the stellar heaven where the sun, moon and star dwell, that area we call space. That came afterwards. Heaven is a real place. It is indeed enlightening and awesome to hear some who were granted Divinely granted appearances or some believers in Christ Jesus, who were near death, or died, but came back, tell of what they have seen over there in that land called Heaven. The first thing that has been repeated continually is that there is a peace, a marvelous peace which passes all understanding and all human ability to describe.
Peace, real peace is what the whole world is looking for. Yet so few experience it, because real peace is not found in things. Real peace is not found in houses or lands. Real peace is found in one place, and that place is the Presence of God.
Speaking about Heaven, the apostle Paul in his writings refer to it as the third Heaven. (2Corinthians 12: 1-4) So, it is biblically sound to conclude that there are three heavens. There is the Atmospheric Heaven, right around us. Then there is the Stellar Heaven, where the sun, moon and stars and other planets and galaxies are. And then, beyond that is the Heaven of heavens, where God dwells.
There are so many things which can be said to describe the kind of place Heaven is. Time will not permit us to list them all. So here are just a few:
1. It is a place of indescribable joy. The Paslmist calls it, “fulness of joy.” (Psalms 16:11) That was the best his limited vocaulary could do.
2. It is a place of indescribable peace.
3. It is the place of the Throne of God.
4. It is the place where there is no night. The sun does not light Heaven. The very Glory of God lights it.
5. It is a place of no sorrow.
6. It is a place of no sickness.
7. It is a place of no pain.
8. It is a place of glory.
9. There is no suffering.
These are just a few of Heaven’s delights. Don’t you want to go.
Now, what qualifies a person to go to Heaven? Does everyone go there? Or is it reserved for certain people? Well, many people believe that all people go to Heaven. And then some are of the opinion that only good people go to Heaven. Who is right? Well, I don’t mind telling you that according to the Bible, which is the final authority on all subjects, they are both wrong.
The Scriptures teach that babies go to Heaven. This is proven when David and Bathsheba sinned and she had a child. God told David that because he sinned the child would not live on this side. Yet we know that the child lived on elsewhere, because David said, concering the child’s death, “he shall not come to me, but I will go to him.” So the child lived on. Where? In Heaven. God does not send little babies and those under the age of accountability to hell. (Yes, hell really does exist, according to the Bible. Look for my article on What The Bible Teaches About A Place Called Hell).
So babies and little children go to Heaven.
As it pertains to everybody going to Heaven, God has said, that the wicked shall not stand in the congregation of the just. (Psalms 1: 1-6) So, wicked people do not go to Heaven. Neither does good people.
We must remember that because of the first man, Adam and his sin against God, all have inherited that sin nature of the enemy. (Romans 5:12) Man therefore has received the sentence of death, which is eternal separation from the Almighty and Holy God. (Romans 6:23) The only way for man to escape hell and go to Heaven is by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus is the only way. He said so. (John 14: 6) Either He lied about it, or He spoke the Truth. I believe that He told the truth, don’t you?
This is really the reason Jesus came. He came to die and shed His holy blood so that our sins, which separated us from God, could be washed away. So, the only thing which qualifies us to go to Heaven, is not our good works, but a real relationship with Jesus Christ.
If you desire such a relationship, just pray these words: Lord Jesus Christ. I believe You are the Son of God. I believe that You died for me and shed Your precious blood to wash away my sins. I believe that You have risen from the dead. And right now, I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me and making me a child of God. Now help me to live for you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
